The river Krka, a natural phenomenon in rocky
terrain, springs at the foot of the mountain Dinara, at the east part of the field of Knin, it flows through a magnificent canyon and empties into the Adriatic Sea near the town of Šibenik. With the flooded part of its mouth the river is 72 km
long. In 1985 it became a national park because of its natural, scientific and cultural
value.

A small island of Visovac is definitely a jewel among the sacral values of the national park. It is situated in the middle of a lake also formed by the river and it is a home to an old Franciscan
monastery, a valuable historical monument.
Krka has seven falls and the most famous of them is Skradinski buk, 45.7 meters tall with 17
steps, which go for about 800 meters. The falls are 200-400 meters
wide. The second most famous fall is Roški slap. 25.5 meters
tall. |
